Daodejing: The Oral Tradition
Learn more about our newly released paperback, Daodejing: The Oral Tradition Commentary by Master Bruce Frantzis, New Translation by Alan Peatfield which you can order here: www.amazon.com/Daodejing-Oral-Tradition-Laozi/dp/1956670114/
Inside this book you will find some things which have never been revealed before in Western writings about Daoism, as the teachings would only be passed on from teacher to student, personally - spoken, not written, and often in secret. When Liu Hung Chieh taught Bruce, he said, “These are the words.” Liu then said the words in Chinese with vibrations, transmissions, behind them that penetrated Bruce to his core. He continued, “This is what they mean.” With all Daoist or ancient texts, trying to understand the meaning from the words alone is exceptionally difficult. Finally, Liu explained, demonstrated, and transmitted: “This is how to do what is proposed.” This is the basis for qi arts, such as Taijiquan, qigong, and yoga and Dissolving meditation practices - all of which serve to train a student in how to genuinely and unambiguously embody what is proposed in the Daodejing in body, mind, and spirit.
With new translation by Dr. Alan Peatfield and commentary by Master Bruce Frantzis, a foremost western expert in the Daoist arts, Daodejing: The Oral Tradition is a powerful exploration and study of the self and humanity. Thank you very much. Have been practicing Master My Lin Shin's long-style for 35 years, and in 1998 bought a copy of your "Power of Internal Martial Arts" Last week I began study of you excellent Daodejing, The Oral Tradition each day after morning and evening practice.

These arts are amazing for bodily health, mental health, and spiritual health‘ Ji, Qi, Shen. They are not the best for self defense or fighting. I do Qi Gong, Nei Dan and various other Taoist and Buddhist arts. I would take my wrestling skills any day over these arts for straight up self defense and fighting. I will practice Qi Gong the rest of my life ☯️☸️☯️

Not only did Bruce release all strength in his hands so that they became super fast - he also released all tension in his back and thus the spinal stretch was done faster than the eye could see.

I couldn't do swings at all until I become able to feel the tension I was adding to swings. I'm not sure how it happened, but maybe this will give hope to people who have trouble releasing their arms.

Bruce is the real deal. The man clearly knows what qigong and taichi are all about when it comes to internal and external practices. I hope to one day participate in an in-person class with him before he stops teaching.

So ultimately your are relaxing and let your weight drop/sink your weight trough the segments of the kinetic chain into the ground right? I always focused on "folding the kua" which caused a lot of tension. When I simply dropped relaxed starting from my ankle and relaxing all other parts of the chain it was effortles and the pelvis sank naturally and was ultimately carried by my feet. Can you please share your view on that?

Magi in Java explains real neikung chikung, very few people left in the world with true mastery of yin, supernatural abilities like the movies, strict oaths signed in blood, death to those unsuccessful, level system that two ever maxed.

I practice Yang style & insights you shared are really great. I tend to see TaiChi a work in progress for me. Interestingly whn I give a gap between practice e.g., if I stop for two weeks and restart my practice, I kind of get atleast one new insight as as what correction I need to do. Wondering why is it so?

Zero comments...This teaching should get FAR more attention. This circular movement works. The unbounding movement, the gentle connected stretch into a space beyond your constricted known body territory is simply one of the best ways I've experienced to lettttt gooooo. Let go the self imposed boundary and feel the freedom of doing so, even just extending, freeing ones energy and soul a millimeter further away from the calcified and numb.

It's good to see Bruce is still teaching and looking well. He's probably the most knowledgeable American master regarding internal energy and how to develope it ,circulate it and work with it. Their are probably only a few Chinese master's on his level of knowledge in the U.S.

I think it maybe IS easy to feel it, but we've habitually had to not feel things in order to be functioning units in our society. So we are in the habit of not feeling.

I understand exactly what your saying. Very interesting. Would you say these principles could be applied to karate? And were these principles in karate long ago as obviously Chinese martials influenced karate greatly from the start.
